Sim City 4 Tutorial Your First City

November 9, 2009 - 5:49 am 25 Comments

This tutorial deals with how to build your first city within a new region. The tutorial is specifically tailored towards beginners of sim city 4 who have perhaps only just started playing the game. There may be afew tips experienced players may also take away from it.

Over my years playing sim city, I have been sent many messages from players going bankrupt during the building of their first city. If you follow this tutorial, and build in the way I show you, you will not go bankrupt. The city that you create with this tutorial will be an excellent platform that you can use to start building the rest of your region.

It’s not the most elegant of cities, however in my opinion, it is probably the best way to start off your region. Your first city will have a low level of education, so you should concentrate on facilitating dirty and manufactuing industry. Building a ’square layer’ of industry around the outskirt of your city will provide you with all the industry you require. It also sufficiently segregates the pollution and ensures you can export products from your city quickly and easily. You don’t need much commercial in your first city because your sims do not have the education to demand it.

Don’t forget my ’strips technique’ of building will reduce commute time through all areas of your city too.

Just remember that, when you have maxed out the city – somewhere where I got to at the end, start a new city and use those road connections. If there is one thing you take away from this tutorial is that making road connections is the key to making the really great citys, so keep making the cities, keep connecting them, and keep on going back to upgrade them.

As said before, I am not stating this is the only way you should build your first city, however it works for me. The strips method may be a little boring to some people, however it’s efficient and significantly helps with city building.

I hope you find this tutorial helpful and I look forward to hearing your feedback

As with all my Sim City 4 videos, I did not use any cheats or money boxes. NAM was used to correct the bugs associated with transit.
