Gordon Brown calls for new group to police global environment issues

Ben Webster, Francis Elliott
Times Online
December 21, 2009

A new global body dedicated to environmental stewardship is needed to prevent a repeat of the deadlock which undermined the Copenhagen climate change summit, Gordon Brown will say tomorrow.

The UNs consensual method of negotiation, which requires all 192 countries to reach agreement, needs to be reformed to ensure that the will of the majority prevails, he feels.

The Prime Minister will say: Never again should we face the deadlock that threatened to pull down those talks. Never again should we let a global deal to move towards a greener future be held to ransom by only a handful of countries. One of the frustrations for me was the lack of a global body with the sole responsibility for environmental stewardship.

How many animals are killed each year due to global warming or other environmental damages?

March 8, 2010 - 6:21 pm 5 Comments

I’m doing a speech for school and tried some research but I’m having some trouble finding this. thanks =D

It’s impossible to tell. There’s species of animals on earth right now that haven’t even been discovered yet, there’s no way to tell if something has gone extinct without us even knowing about it.

You may be able to get some numbers on polar bears, try searching on that.

When will people start taking global warming and the environmental problioms seriously?

March 6, 2010 - 5:50 pm 25 Comments

they should’ve taken it seriously a long time ago……people just don’t think about the future, they only think about what now……

Raised in Vancouver and Toronto, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN’s Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Their aim was to remind the decision-makers of who their actions or inactions would ultimately affect. The goal was reached when 12 yr old Severn closed a Plenary Session with a powerful speech that received a standing ovation.

Both, but if you were going to pick on one, global poverty.

What are some social impacts and environmental impacts of Global Warming?

Please help.

<<Nice to see Linlyons keeping up his tradition of not answering the question asked but a completely different one! >>

According to the IPPC warming by up to 3 degrees will lead to increased food production, so more people can be fed. ""Globally, the potential for food production is projected to increase with increases in local average temperature over a range of 1 to 3°C""

Why is Global Warming in the Environmental Category?

February 26, 2010 - 7:06 pm 7 Comments

Wouldn’t this sub-category be more appropriately located in the Politics category?
No Dave, no sarcasm. This seems to be a purely political topic to me.
Dawei What climate science? The only "science" involved with concluding humans are warming the planet has been exposed as a fraud.

or is there a fairytale section!

Al Gore, Liar: The Global Warming God Dosen’t Want Tough Questions! Brainwashing!

UPDATE: 11/20/09

(evidence of the whole global warming scam!!!)

This story broke on FoxNews this morning:
(certainly no other media outlet will air it)

Watch Al Gore silence environmental journalist Phelim McAleer and have him removed from the conference after McAleer asks a question that contradicts Gore’s brainwashing!

“Society of Environmental Journalists Annual Conference”

Al Gore wants to shut down factories, destroy American jobs and end development in third world countries (which would kill millions). Gore says the time for debate is over!

Well it seems Gore has indeed decided to shutdown all debate and decent concerning the Global Warming religion! Man Made Global Warming is a complete LIE, being preached to us and school children in pursuit of raising American’s taxes and destroying America’s global competitiveness.

Point to consider: They say they love trees and plants (more than they love people it would seem) but they work to lower the level of Co2…which plants and trees breath! Does that make sense to you? Not very “Green” of them is it?

Get educated!! Resist Gore and the brainwashing lies of the man-made Global Warming lunatics!

Should developed nations must pay for environmental global damage?

February 24, 2010 - 6:06 pm 3 Comments

You’re asking for a value judgment rather than a technical answer, but for those of us who believe in a contractual society where freedom and private property prevail, there is no question that those who pollute in ways which invade property rights should foot the clean-up bill.

A much more difficult question involves ascertaining just what are the property rights potentially invaded. A mining company which allows waste cyanide to spill onto my land clearly is over the line; but, when we start looking at things like global warming, the problem becomes more difficult. Assume global warming is occurring (a safe bet), and assume human activity is contributing (a good hypothesis). As a result, sea levels may rise (bad for coastal Florida, where I write this) but growing seasons may extend in places like Southern Canada (great for Canadian wheat growers and the hundreds of millions they will feed). Tell me: How do you assign that bill? Or, is climate change just a risk of living? How would the Indians or Chinese factor in? As potential buyers of the wheat, would not global warming be good for them? If so, should those countries have to pay to get the sea creatures out of my living room? Or, does the bill go to the profiteers (those selling the wheat)?

None of these are easy questions to answer, even among those who agree strongly over the need to preserve and protect private property. Throw in a communist or two, and the problem is all but intractable.
